The Myrtle Beach Skywheel
Here are a few fun facts you might not know about the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel:
•It was chosen by developers to be built in Myrtle Beach because of our newly redesigned boardwalk, which is among the top 6 in the nation.
•The steel frame of the wheel was constructed in St. Lewis, while the glass gondolas were built in Switzerland.
•TLC made a show about the building of the SkyWheel and installed a TV camera up top to catch all the action as it went up. It was truly a marvel to watch go up!
•There are two other very similar wheels like it in North America, one on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and one in Seattle.
•It can withstand hurricane force winds of up to 135 mph, but the gondolas must be removed, a process which takes more than ten hours.
